The main objectives of the Education Centre is to conduct training programme for the capacity and capability enhancement of waste pickers enabling them to –
- Take care of their health, education and living standards and assert their rights;
- Developing waste management knowledge and skills like composting and gardening and assisting them in acquiring regular employment;
- Develop administrative and soft skills for staff and volunteers in managing the programmes on a daily basis and larger scale and
- Create awareness building and impart knowledge by training of public and school children.
The scope of work included setting up a bio gas plant of 1 ton capacity; rainwater harvesting system; water recycling unit of 4000 litres / day capacity; a composting unit; plant nursery; a museum to demonstrate different facets of waste management and a training room with various facilities like a computer, projector, sound system and furniture to seat 30 trainees at a time.
